January 3rd, 1864:
"...we are havin good times" It was with those words that Private William Galpin of company H of the 76th NYSVI ended his letter of January 3rd, 1864 to his father.
The 76th was encamped in winter quarters at this time in Culpeper, Virginia.

CurrieWeb.com selects theme: 1864
Today CurrieWeb.com Living History News announced a theme for this year. The theme will be "1864". Just like 2004, 1864 was an election year as well as a year of war. President Lincoln was under severe criticism by the Democrats and Lincoln's former head of the Army of the Potomac, George B. McClellan was running against him in the election on the democratic ticket.
